چکیده
Abstract Monocyte Distribution Width (MDW), a new cytometric parameter correlating with cytomorphologic changes occurring upon massive monocyte activation, has recently emerged as promising early biomarker of sepsis. Similar to sepsis, monocyte/macrophage subsets are considered key mediators the life-threatening hyper-inflammatory disorder characterizing severe COVID-19. In this study, we longitudinally analyzed MDW values in cohort 87 COVID-19 patients consecutively admitted our hospital, showing significant correlations between and common inflammatory markers, namely CRP ( p < 0.001), fibrinogen 0.001) ferritin 0.01). Moreover, high resulted be prognostically associated fatal outcome (AUC = 0.76, 95% CI: 0.66–0.87, sensitivity 0.75, specificity 0.70, threshold 26.4; RR 4.91, 1.73–13.96; OR 7.14, 2.06–24.71). This pilot study shows that can useful monitoring patients, innovative hematologic is: (1) easy obtain, (2) directly related activation state fundamental cell subset (i.e. monocytes, pivotal both cytokine storm sepsis immunopathogenesis), (3) well correlated clinical severity COVID-19-associated disorder, and, turn, (4) endowed relevant prognostic significance. Additional studies needed define further impact testing management patients.

Prognostic and therapeutic significance of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 as tumor marker in patients with pancreatic cancer.
In pancreatic cancer (PC) accurate determination of treatment response by imaging often remains difficult. Various efforts have been undertaken to investigate new factors which may serve as more appropriate surrogate parameters of treatment efficacy. This review focuses on the role of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) as a prognostic tumor marker in PC and summarizes its contribution to monit...
متن کاملPrognostic Validity of Red Cell Distribution Width in Neonatal Sepsis
Background Neonatal sepsis is one of the most critical illness in neonates that is responsible for a great proportion of morbidity and mortality in neonates so early diagnosis and identification of high risk cases is a challenging aim of our study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of red cell distribution width (RDW), in neonatal sepsis at the time of admission ...
متن کاملRed blood cell distribution width as a prognostic marker in patients with heart failure and diabetes mellitus
BACKGROUND Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is an established prognostic marker in acute and chronic heart failure (HF). Recent studies have pointed out a link among RDW, diabetes mellitus (DM) and inflammation. We sought to investigate the prognostic value and longitudinal pattern of RDW in patients with concomitant HF and DM, which remains unknown. METHODS A total of 218 patients (71...
متن کاملRed Cell Distribution Width: A Novel Marker of Activity in Inflammatory Bowel Disease
BACKGROUND/AIMS Studies concerning red cell distribution width (RDW) for use in the assessment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) activity are limited. We investigated whether RDW is a marker of active disease in patients with IBD. METHODS In total, 61 patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 56 patients with Crohn's disease (CD) were enrolled in the study group, and 44 age- and-sex-matched...
